Autobiography. Write a 250-word autobiography. Help us to get to know you. What are your hobbies, interests? Upload your biography to the FirstClass® "Bios" folder. Note: Individual student biographies are available only in FirstClass®. You must have FirstClass® access to read them. |

Distance Education. Refer to Berge intro and chapters 1-2. In a well written 1,000 word essay, discuss distance education and the role of online education in today's society. Cite and discuss two examples of distance learning programs that you found during your research. Use the HTML template. Instructional Design. Distance education is only as good as the course design. Using Berge chapter 3 as a guide, find two examples of online courses that are well designed. Find one example of stand-alone instruction and one example of mediated instruction. Write a 1000-wor d essay describing those courses. Include the URLs. Discuss the major considerations educators must keep in mind in designing for the online classroom. Draw on other resources you find on the web to support your essay. |

Midterm Examination. This will be a take home, open book examination covering the readings and discussions for the first half of the course. |

Assignment #8 (due Nov. 2) |
Copyright. Intellectual Property. The use of sound and images found on the web can be confusing to the novice. Find 3 examples of violation of copyright using sound or images. In a 1000-word essay, explain why your examples violate the law. Include the URLs. |

Assignment #9 (due Nov. 16) |
Three-level Outline of Final Project. Upload an outline, complete to three levels (I., 1.1, 1.1.1), for your research paper. It should contain your name, title, and a complete content outline of your final paper. |

Assignment #10 (due Nov. 30) |
Annotated Bibliography. Post an annotated bibliography of the references for your research paper. John Barnard's annotated bibliography on transactional distance can be used as an example. Proper APA format is required. |

Assignment #11 (due Dec. 4) |
Research Paper. You select the topic for your final research paper in consultation with your instructors. Search the literature in the library and use online sources. The paper is a ten page analysis of the available information on your topic. Include a bibliography a nd online resources. Please use APA and Electronic Sources style manuals. References from 1990 and later are preferred. Upload your paper in HTML format to FirstClass®. Your paper is evaluated on content, substance, and technicals. Support your s tatements with references in the text (e.g., Brown, 1990). References are included for only those items you cited in the text. Be sure to include web links to significant sites. |

Assignment #12 (due Dec. 4 or 11) |
Class Presentation. You will present your final research to the class on December 4 or 11. Your presentation should use visuals and may last 15-20 minutes. You may want to use a presentation system like PowerPoint (for the Mac since it is in the classroom) to present your information in a visual format. Since this will be a professional style presentation, you may want to consider submitting it to a local or national conference at the end of the semester. |
