Banning/Challenge of the Adventures of Huckelberry Finn
(due on-line Feb. 13)

(For all of the following assignments, you will write an 1500 word essay, add html formatting, and send the assignments to the homework folder in FirstClass. In this assignment you will begin using the HTML template. The template should be used to make all assignments "web ready". You will write your paper using a word processor and then cut and paste it into the template. Then cut and paste the entire final assignment into a message for the homework folder on FirstClass. You will do this for each of the next assignments and the final paper. You can practice on this assignment.) 

In a teams of three students each, investigate this CASE SYNOPSIS, and search the web for other information on the banning of this book. In a 1500 - 2000 word essay, which will include citations from your assigned readings, as well as independent and online resources (two external resources per team member) explore the issues facing the courts in this case -

  • Explore the resolution of this specific case, does it adequately address the concerns?
  • What are the ramifications of the review committee's resolution in terms of how it treats the legitimacy of the complaint, or resolving issues raised by the complaint?
  • Based on your readings, and research what concerns can you identify that are left unstated or unaddressed in this case?
  • Identify four clear issues in this debate.
  • How can educational technology such as online courseware or interactive cd rom etc. be used in your resolution to this issue?
